Mario Lopez Makes Huge Announcement About His Faith

Sometimes it seems like Hollywood actor and EXTRA co-host Mario Lopez hasn't aged a day since his role as a teen heartthrob in TV's Saved By The Bell. Although his looks haven't changed, there's one aspect of his life that's recently undergone a huge overhaul, and it has everything to do with his faith.
The San Diego native was raised as a devout Catholic, and he's made no secret about his religious upbringing. He goes to church every Sunday, and if for some reason he's not able to make it, he'll light a candle in honor of the holy day. However, just before the Easter holiday Mario dropped a huge announcement that none of his fans saw coming!
The 44-year-old actor went to Israel just before Easter, where he visited various holy sites and reconnected with his Christian roots. His exposure to other faiths in the Holy Land opened his eyes to all the different forms of spirituality out there, and he now sees the world through a different set of eyes. On his Twitter feed, Mario said:
"Visiting the Holy Land during Holy Week will change your thoughts about religion & spirituality. When traveling it's important to keep an open mind & see what the world has to offer. Thank you Israel for an inspiring time..."
What also inspired Mario was a visit to all the places that Jesus loved to hang out, like the Sea of Galilee, where the son of God walked on water, and the Mount of Beatitudes, where he gave his famous "Sermon on the Mount."
But, the most important stop on this trip was the Jordan River. Mario wanted to get baptized in the same blessed waters where Jesus Christ underwent the sacred ceremony. In a video he posted on Twitter, Mario said:
"We are at the Jordan River where John the Baptist baptized Jesus Christ. I'm about to get baptized. It's a beautiful day. There's a really cool Catholic priest that's gonna do me the honors. And there's a sermon going on right now. So I'm going to join these fine folks and then, bam! It's on!"
Most Catholics are baptized as infants, so it's unclear if this was Mario's first time, or if he was just renewing his baptismal vows. Either way, he was super excited to get dunked under and rise up as a new man!
"Thank you. Beautiful people here. This is awesome. Wow. I just got baptized in the Jordan River. Hallelujah."
Hallelujah indeed! Mario couldn't have picked a more perfect spot, or a more serene place, to follow in the steps of Jesus Christ. What a blessing it is to be able to go to the river Jordan and feel those divine vibes in person. This has to be the best Easter treat ever!
