With Mother's Day right around the corner, it's the time to put the complexities of motherhood out of our minds and focus on the immeasurable number of good memories that come with raising children!
One person who tries to stay positive -- even during the stressful moments -- is TODAY Show host Hoda Kotb.
Hoda and her husband Joel are raising a one-year-old little girl and both work full time. It's easy to get overwhelmed in their house! But a conversation Hoda recently had with God helped put everything in perspective...
Hoda chatted with her TODAY co-anchor Savannah Guthrie about the best moments of motherhood for a special Mother's Day story. Both Hoda and Savannah became mothers later in life -- Savannah was 42 when she had her first child and Hoda was 52 when she adopted her daughter, Haley Joy.
Even though motherhood is a blessing, Hoda admitted that it can be a nightmare sometimes! Her house is often a mess, her sleep schedule is shot and her patience is constantly tested.
"You're just, like, sitting there and the world's exploding."
Thankfully, there was a come-to-Jesus conversation not too long ago that helped Hoda keep her head on straight when things got particularly rough.
It happened at 2 a.m. a few weeks ago. Hoda's husband was out of town, Haley was sobbing uncontrollably and her dog accidentally knocked over a picture frame which left glass shattered all over the floor. Hoda could've easily lost her cool -- but then she looked up to God and admitted this was everything she asked for before Haley arrived.
She explained this "Ah Ha" moment to Savannah:
"I remember having a short conversation with God. And I remember saying, 'I would have begged you for this day.'
Like, this terrible day, I would have begged on my knees for. So I remember I just literally took one breath, put her in the playpen, cleaned up... but I remembered, for a second, having that awareness...
I try to check myself on those rough days. And say, 'Remember when you were on your knees asking and begging for this moment? Take it.'"
Even during the most difficult of times, being a mother is the best thing in the world. Watching her daughter grow into a person with likes, dislikes, passion and personality is the most rewarding accomplishment of her life!
Hoda's conversation with God is a lesson we can all take to heart. When the going gets tough, look to Him and remember it's all worth it!
