Officer Helps Little Girl Build A Snowman, Not Knowing The Truth Of Her Mother Inside
inspire by Cailyn Finkel 3/20/2017
When Richland County Police Deputy Chris Blanding saw Miyah Washington building a snowman all by herself, he had the sudden urge to stop his patrol car.
The 12-year-old from Columbia, South Carolina tried to recruit others to help her, but none of her friends were available! So Miyah huffed back her house and began shaping her snowman alone.
When he saw this, Deputy Blanding immediately got out of his car and started chatting with Miyah. He asked why she building a snowman alone, and where her parents were - the answer she gave nearly broke his heart....
Hanging her head, Miyah explained that her mother was inside and trying to avoid the cold weather due to her breast cancer. Miyah's mother, DaVida, was diagnosed last August and the unusual cold front forced her to stay indoors.
But that wasn't the worst of it.
Miyah's father was also inside tending to his wife who not was battling breast cancer, but was fighting a vicious cold as well. So, little Miyah was left to make the snowman all by herself.
Without skipping a beat, Deputy Blanding started to help Miyah form a base, stomach and head of the snowman. Then, he helped her gather the decorations to make the eyes, nose and mouth! Delighted, Miyah ran inside to grab a scarf to complete their masterpiece.
She was so grateful that Deputy Blanding took time out of his busy patrol schedule to help her have a little fun.
Richland County Sheriff Leon Lott told WLTX News that this type of behavior is totally normal for his officers!
"Our Deputies do much more than enforce the law. Deputy Chris Blanding demonstrated that by just playing in the snow yesterday with the young girl.
He didn't do it for publicity, he did it because he saw an opportunity to make a young person smile."
You can tell that his help definitely helped put a big grin on Miyah's face when there was little to be happy about at home!

Miyah told WLTX News that she was beyond thrilled to have Deputy Blanding's help with her snowman!
"I thought it was pretty cool that he would even stop his car to help me.... It was absolutely cool that a policeman would even think to take a picture with me with my snowman, and it was exciting, too!"
DaVida was able to come outside briefly to take a peek at Miyah's snowman, thank the officer and snap a quick photo! Seeing her little girl light up like she did gave DaVida even more strength in her time of need.
