The money order was for nearly $700 and the IRS was expecting a payment from her in the next few days, Unfortunately, after hours of searching vigorously to no avail, Yesenia gave up and prayed that no one would find the money order on the street and cash it.
A few hours after Yesenia returned home with her head hung, but then she hears a knock on her front door.
Yesenia shared what happened next on her Facebook page:
"I always have faith in myself and in others. Today I lost a money order for $676 it was just returned to me by man who is homeless.
He and his wife [just] knocked on the door and returned it. Forget the bad of this world, the evil and hate. There are still good people out there. Always have faith, believe and be kind.
It always comes back - and pay it forward."
The frantic woman wrapped her arms around Sergio and thanked him for his honesty and kindness. Then the two got to talking....
Yesenia discovered Sergio and his wife were homeless and nearly out of their last bit of money, but still drove all the way to Yesenia's home to return a check that could have made a huge difference in their life.
Yesenia told CNN about the conversation that ensued:
"He chose to find me and hand deliver that $676 when he doesn't even have money for bare necessities."
At first she offered the kind couple $40 for their troubles and asked that they please get a hearty meal with the money - but they revealed that they would probably use the cash for gas money instead.
That's when Yesenia decided to help Sergio and his family in a major way.
In addition to the $40, Yesenia set up a GoFundMe account for the Juarez family and it's raised over $20,000 in under two weeks. Since the story's release, Sergio's received several lucrative job offers and is in the process of interviewing right now!
Yesenia's "give it back" mentality didn't end there... She told Sergio's oldest son that she plans on helping him with college tuition after he graduates from high school later this year!
She told CNN that this experience has given her a renewed faith the world:
"Don't stop believing in miracles. You never know who is going to help you and who you are going to help in this world."
Sergio is proof that there are still honest, kind people out there!
