Woman On Food Stamps Can't Pay At Checkout, Then Lady Behind Makes Blinding Remark

Some people have no choice but to take public transportation to get around town. However, taking the bus can be quite a hassle when you're disabled, which is something one woman knows from firsthand experience.
Jill Zimmerman had recently moved to Bettendorf, Iowa and regularly took the bus to and from places to run errands. On this particular day she was going to the grocery store.
After the cashier rang up all of her items, Jill reached into her purse to pay for her groceries with her EBT "food stamp" card. When the woman standing in line behind Jill saw what was going on, she made a blinding remark.
At first Jill thought the woman was joking... but, then she instantly had to fight back tears.
Some folks are very judgmental when it comes to food stamps. There's a pervasive idea going around that people who use food stamps are lowlifes that are stealing money right out of your own pocket.
However, Jill is disabled, and she depends on food stamps to survive. Since she doesn't have a car, she has to carefully plan her grocery shopping trips to coincide with the bus schedule.
Unfortunately, Jill was met with a disheartening situation after a recent trip to her local Hy-Vee grocery store.
After all the effort that Jill had just gone through, she was met with her worst and most embarrassing public nightmare. When she rummaged around in her wallet, Jill couldn't find her EBT card to pay for the items.
"I get to the checkout and the cashier starts scanning my groceries when I realize I had left my EBT card at home. I tell her to void the whole thing and I'd have to come back at a later time."
A later time actually meant another day, since the bus schedule meant that Jill wouldn't be able to make the trip back to the store again that day.
That's when a very bold woman waiting in line behind Jill decided to question her...
In fact, the stranger had the gumption to say something that brought Jill to tears - but in a good way!
"A lady behind me in line asked the cashier what was wrong. The cashier told her and she asked me, 'Can I pay for your groceries? I'd really like to!'"
Not a lot of folks would "really like to" do nice things for complete strangers, but Marsha White was certainly up for the challenge of playing the "pay it forward" game.
Even so, Jill still couldn't believe her amazing luck!
"At first I thought it was a joke and hesitated but, I could see the compassion in her eyes and I really did need the food. I asked her several times, 'Are you sure? It's a lot of money.'"
Marsha insisted that she pay for the groceries, but Jill would only agree to it on one condition...

Jill was adamant that she could give a big bear hug to the compassionate hero who saved the day!
"She gave me a warm hug and I thanked her very much over and over again, tears welling in my eyes. I quickly took a picture of her for two reasons, one to remind me of her generosity and two to share it with anyone, hoping one day it gets back to her that her gift was a true blessing I'm forever grateful for. Blessed be to this woman, an angel sent when I really needed it!"
Although Jill didn't know Marsha's name at the time, social media helped deliver Jill's heartfelt thank-you to the kindhearted stranger.
It's not everyday that someone pays for your groceries out of the blue. Marsha gave of herself generously and freely, when she didn't have to lift a finger, or rather her pocketbook, to help out. Let's just say that the world is in dire need of more people like her!
