For years, George and Laura Bush longed to build a family, but struggled to get pregnant. They were at a point where they decided to consider other options to create the family they desperately sought.
So the former president and first lady pursued adoption. They worked with an agency to express their interest in creating a forever family for children who needed the love they had to give.
But on the day the Bushes joyfully learned that their adoption application had been approved by the agency, the couple also discovered they'd been doubly blessed.
It was a miracle, Laura was pregnant.
After all those years of yearning for a family, they were thrilled to be approved to adopt and await the birth of their baby.
Except it wasn't just one baby Laura was waiting for...
It turned out they were expecting twins that they later named Jenna and Barbara. Jenna shared this revelation during a Today Show moms' lunch.
"My parents couldn't get pregnant for a lot of years, and so they tried to adopt, and the day they found they were pregnant with us was the day they found out that they had been accepted to adopt."
In fact, Jenna keeps a photo of her parents on the day they sent in their adoption application as a reminder of how badly her parents wanted children and how cherished she and her sister truly are.
That photo sits framed by her bed, a beautiful keepsake of her parents love for their future children. It's a sign of the family that God intended to create for the Bushes.
