Johnny Galecki stars on the hit show The Big Bang Theory. He also endeared fans with his role of a quirky teenager on Roseanne. But it's his heartwarming thank you in the face of adversity and great loss that has impressed many people.
While Johnny wasn't home during the wildfire outbreak in central California that's not out yet, his home on a ranch in the Santa Margarita area was destroyed by the uncontrollable blazes. His property, located 190 miles north of Los Angeles, was considered Johnny's "getaway place."
When the fires began quickly spreading, approximately 250 residents in the Santa Margarita area were forced to leave their homes. Fortunately, residents were only gone for a day after firefighters were able to contain half of the 2.5-square-mile wildfire.
Despite losing his home and its contents, Johnny's come forth with how grateful he is to the firefighters, sheriff's office, and everyone else involved. He thanked CalFire and others on social media, saying:
"Thank you to the brothers and sisters of @calfire It is the profound risks that you accept and the sacrifices you and your families make that keep us safe. Thanks also to the many of you who have reached out in support. It is far from lost on us here."
Johnny also expressed his feelings during an interview with TMZ:
"My heart goes out to all in the area who are also experiencing loss from this vicious fire, the threat of which we live with constantly, which may seem crazy to some but we do so because living in our beautiful, rural area makes it worthwhile."
The wildfire, nicknamed the Hill Fire, burned more than 1,600 acres. Johnny noted that it isn't a structure that creates a community, but rather the people.
"And if the people of Santa Margarita have taught me anything it's that, once the smoke has cleared, literally and figuratively, it's a time to reach out and rebuild. We've done it before and we'll need to do it together again. And it will make our community even closer and stronger."
The fire began as two individual outbreaks that grew so big they eventually morphed into one giant wildfire that swept across the area. It was able to escalate rather quickly because the land consists of heavy brush. Warm temperatures also contributed to the fire's rapid growth.
Johnny's fans were relieved to learn that he wasn't home during the fire but rather was performing at Chicago's Country LakeShake Festival. While material possessions perished in the fire, God was looking out for the people residing there who appear to have escaped harm, as well as the rescue workers risking their lives to combat the blaze. Thank goodness no one to date has been seriously injured by the outbreak.
