When a tragedy occurs, it's a beautiful blessing when strangers are drawn to the situation by God to help out. Such was the case near Ruskin, Florida, when a horrific accident resulted in a near-death incident for a little girl.
A 31-year-old mom attempted to maintain control of her Ford Excursion when her rear tire blew while she was traveling northbound on Interstate 75 headed toward Gibsonton Drive. But she lost control, veered into the median and flipped over the guardrail.
Approximately a dozen passersby quickly pulled over to help when they witnessed what happened. They assisted in removing the mom and another young passenger from the wreckage, then discovered there was another child missing.
Dayna Gibson was one of the strangers on the road that day, who stopped to help along with her dad David Lowe. She was taken aback by the huge crowd forming, then realized there was something else hiding among the chaos. Wedged under the SUV and surrounded by the swarm of people, a nine year old girl was barely visible.
“She told us that her youngest daughter was under the vehicle. So at that time all of us ran around to the other side and we saw the little girl’s arm sticking out from under the vehicle.”
Dayna and David attempted to push the SUV far enough that the girl wasn't being smashed by it, but as the largest SUV ever made, it wasn't budging. Finally, enough good Samaritans stopped to assist that the group of them finally were able to push the massive SUV off the little girl.
Dayna said at least 50 people pulled off the busy interstate to help. It was only by the grace of God compelling those strangers to help that the little girl was saved.
“We achieved what would have been impossible by coming together. There were people from all walks of life there, it didn’t matter. I think if we could be reminded how powerful we are together, especially during these times, we could do a lot of great things."
Not only did the good Samaritans push the vehicle off of the girl, they held it in place so emergency workers could stabilize it and it didn't tip back over onto the little girl. What an incredible feat they accomplished.
Witnesses said it was incredible to watch people from different backgrounds, different jobs, teaming up to save one life hanging in the balance. May everyone remember just how much good they can do when God brings them together.
