Marriage can be a blessing, but sometimes unions don't have a fairytale ending. With four grown kids, a grandbaby, another on the way and a joint business, divorce hasn't been easy for the stars of Little People, Big World Matt and Amy Roloff.
In 2014, the couple officially filed for divorce. Amy, 52, has been dating Chris Marek, a 54-year-old real estate broker. But when Matt, 55, began dating a longtime family acquaintance, the harmony that had been established post-divorce became askew.
That's because Matt is now dating Caryn Chandler, who has been Matt and Amy's farm manager for several years. Amy said it's been tough to see Caryn as not just an employee anymore.
"Caryn has been Matt’s personal assistant - now that they’re dating, of course that’s hurtful."
Amy and Matt were married for 27 years. It was a year before they divorced that they say was when their marriage hit a rough patch. The two released a joint statement after their divorce was final indicating that the best thing to come out of their marriage was their four kids, Jeremy, Zack, Molly and Jacob.
"We are proud of what we have accomplished together including raising four wonderful children who have grown to become remarkable adults and building our strong and ongoing successful businesses."
At the time of their divorce, they announced they'd continue working together to maintain their family business in Helvetia, Oregon, Roloff Farms, as well as other business endeavors they have. But when Caryn attended a family function, specifically Zach and his wife's baby gender reveal party, Amy wasn't happy.
"Seeing Caryn here threw me for a loop more than I would have liked. I think coming here to this particular event is an intimate family thing… It just throws a whole different dynamic to my life here on the farm.”
But Matt said it's been wonderful spending time with his newfound love. It's been a magical fresh start, he indicated.
"We enjoy the same sort of social settings, and company and friendship. Amy and I didn’t have that. It’s different. This is a really neat person that’s full of life and I think she’s cute.”
Regardless of any discomfort the adults may experience with their new relationship dynamics, they'll all have to come together for the sake of the grandbabies. Zach and Tori's baby Jackson, who has dwarfism like his dad, continues to grow and delight his family.
Jeremy and his wife are expecting their baby girl in September. There'll be double the fun, milestones and diapers for the Roloffs soon!
