Royal Fans Beginning To Wonder Why Prince William Never Wears Wedding Ring, Finally Learn Truth

Not all men opt to wear a wedding ring, the circular band that signifies never ending love. But many people are surprised to see that Prince William hasn't had one on lately.
In fact, he hasn't ever worn one. In 2011, Prince William and Kate said "I do." During the ceremony, Kate, now the Duchess of Cambridge, had a ring slid on her finger.
But Prince William, also the Duke of Cambridge, did not. That had tongues wagging...
Adoring fans from around the world can look at any of the thousands of photos snapped of the happy couple and see that Prince William doesn't sport a wedding band. Kate, however, wears the gorgeous blue ring that belonged to Princess Diana.
As it turns out, Prince William doesn't wear a band simply because he doesn't want to. In fact, the royal family even released a statement before their wedding noting that William had chosen not to wear a band because of "personal preference."
A palace aide confirmed that Prince William "isn't one for jewelry." It seems to be a royalty thing, too. He's not the only one.
The queen's husband, Prince Philip, doesn't wear a wedding band. Prince Andrew, Duke of York, wore a ring, but it was on his pinky finger.
Surprisingly, in Britain, wedding bands worn by men did not become a trend until World War II. Prince Charles, William's father, did not wear a wedding band until his second marriage, but has always worn his signet ring.
A signet ring dates back to medieval times as far as a functional tool, but does have a history that goes back to ancient times. The signet ring has been used by kings and queens to officially sign letters and legal documents.
The signet ring bore the heraldic symbol of a family or a symbol representing an individual. Surprisingly, the signet ring is still worn today, particularly by royalty.
While wearing or not wearing a wedding band really is a personal preference, it's interesting to see that the highly visible Prince William opts not to sport one. We'll have to wait and see if his brother Prince Harry chooses to wear a wedding band when he eventually ties the knot.
