As a young boy in South Shields, England, Joseph McElderry dreamed of making it big as a singer one day. He had no idea that he would soon have the chance to prove himself in front of millions watching him on television and a packed auditorium sitting in front of him.
That's exactly the situation Joseph found himself in at the age of 18 when he was invited to audition on The X Factor. His performance left everyone stunned.
Before all of the judges and audience members sitting in the theater, Joseph belted out the words to Luther Vandross' hit song "Dance with My Father." The moment Joseph opened his mouth to sing, everyone in the crowd was awestruck.
His voice was so refined and powerful, it was hard to believe that it came from such a young man with little professional schooling! Before Joseph could finish his performance, Simon Cowell lifted his hand to tell Joseph to stop.
