Christian Lunsford, 15, recognized the man in the photo immediately. It was his father, who had already spent numerous stints in jail over the years.
Christian had little contact with his dad since his parents divorced when he was just two years old. However, his father did meet up with Christian a few weeks earlier. He had given him $250 for a school band trip. Christian told CBS News:
"There's times that you just feel really low, like, 'Is that going to be me? Am I going to end up like that?'"
When Christian found out about his father's latest transgression, he decided to reach out to Tona. They met in a church parking lot, and Christian apologized for his father's actions.
Tona was touched by the young man's heartfelt apology. She explained:
"I thought that was so, so precious. Any 15-year-old boy who has that much conscience is extraordinary."
Yet, Christian felt he should do more. So he offered to give her the $250 he received from his father for his band trip. Even though he didn't commit the crime, Christian wanted to pay his father's debts.
