The fantasy to find prince charming has quite literally come true for Meghan Markle. On November 27, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle announced their engagement to the world and few have stopped wondering just how lucky Megan really is.
Previously married, an actress by profession, and not to mention American - Meghan isn't really part of the British royal family mold! This engagement however is refreshing proof that even the most traditionalist of us have come around to accepting true love in all its form.
But while most of us have spent entirely too much time thinking about the royal treatment that will forever accompany Meghan, few have wondered about the flip-side! Sure, there are the family jewels, the fancy title, and tea time with the Queen, but in her new role, Meghan will also have to give up on many things dear to her.
The biggest of this is her standing as a successful actress. Meghan, who is 36-years-old, has starred in the hit TV drama called Suits since 2011. In fact many claim that the show is what propelled her career and made Meghan Markle a household name.
Now, however, Meghan has announced that she will retire from acting and concentrate on new causes and goals aligned with Prince Harry and the monarchy. According to Fox News, this will echo what Grace Kelly did in 1956 when she married Prince Rainier III and become Princess of Monaco.
Many see this as a big loss, but for Meghan that is hardly the case. In an interview with Harper's Bazaar, Meghan claimed that:
"I don’t see it as giving anything up. I just see it as a change. It’s a new chapter. And keep in mind I’ve been working on my show for seven years. We were very fortunate to have that sort of longevity on a series. For me, once we hit the 100 episode marker, I thought, I have ticked this box and I feel really proud of the work we’ve done there and now it’s time to work as a team with [Harry]."
Two other important things that Meghan will have to part with before marrying into the royal family is her American citizenship, and one of her beloved rescue dogs named Bogart - who will be looked after by a dear friend in the US. Not exactly a small price to pay for many!
