Scott pulled four notes out of a hat while the eleven year old examined them for a short while. Alma then proceeds to play a beautifully played piano piece in complete improvisation with the four notes. Scott Pelley watches her and chuckles at the thought of this truly amazing feat being performed by a child. Alma takes great joy in what she does. "For me the most important thing in music is the melodies, not that everything has to be complex and very serious, but that people actually want to listen to it and enjoy it."
Even though this ability comes naturally to Alma, she explains that there are difficult components even for her. "That's really the difficult part," Alma concludes, "Having to tell a real story with the music." Though Alma seeks to make beautiful music in whatever way she can, she has another motive in mind, which is to make a complete piece - from start to finish, there is a story being told - something truly amazing for a kid who is just eleven years old. When he asked if she'd ever be able to recreate what she improvised, she happily admitted it wouldn't be able to be repeated. This improvised performance by the prodigy Alma Deutscher is an absolute must-see!
