Many of us look at new year's celebrations as a chance to set the right intentions for the upcoming year.
While some of us rang in 2018 by hanging out in our comfy pajamas at home to channel more relaxing times to come, there were others who were dancing and singing with Keith Urban at the 2018 Jack Daniel's Music City Midnight in Nashville!
And in that happy chaos, there was something that Keith chose to do that really made the crowds tear up!
As much as the new year was about a new beginning, it was also about remembering the many musicians who passed away in 2017. For Keith, involving a heartfelt tribute at his new year's concert just felt like the right thing to do!
Keith spoke before starting the tribute to say just what it meant to him personally:
"This year we lost a lot of our friends, a lot of musicians, a lot of the people that influenced me.and I wanted to put together this medley this year as we bring in the New Year to celebrate them and remember them tonight."
And then, Keith sang to honor some amazing musicians that we lost in 2017, including some of country music's greatest stars like Soundgarden's Chris Cornell for whom he sang "Black Hole Sun".
"Midnight Rider" followed to honor Allman, and "Johnny B. Goode" in honor of Chuck Berry seemed like no-brainers as well.
Some of the other songs in the medley included Williams' "Tulsa Time", Campbell's "Wichita Lineman", Montgomery Gentry's "My Town" as a tribute to Troy Gentry, AC/DC's "Back in Black" for Malcom Young.
Topping it all off with a mind blowing performance of Petty's "Free Fallin".
And as if the medley wasn't enough to get the crowd going, it was the surprise guest who joined Keith on stage that really put things over the top! We imagine, even they couldn't keep just to the sidelines!
Here is the amazing Keith Urban paying respect to the lost stars!
