Grandpa Walter has had a song in his heart for many years. When you grow to love a song this much, its meaning seems to stay with you no matter what the circumstance. When Walter entered the hospital at the age of 97, he still draws comfort from the words he heard so long ago.
At the Ohio Health Mansfield Hospital, Walter was visited by his friends and family. But it wasn't exactly an ordinary visit. When a visitor took Walter's hand and sang the beginning strains of "How Great Thou Art," the entire mood of the room changed.
Any feelings of loneliness were completely dispelled by the comforting truth of the words. Not only did the nurses feel blessed by this experience, but also everyone who has witnessed this footage.
The men in the room stood close next to Walter, and one takes his hand. Walter looks into the eyes of his friends and family and carries on the tune. Soon, the men begin harmonizing in such a simple way. There were no instruments, only voices singing softly.
When you have the knowledge that the hymn, "How Great Thou Art," speaks of, you don't forget it. That's why Walter remembers each verse and chorus, even in his old age. He just needed the encouragement of the people he loved to lead him in singing.
For over 130 years, the foundation of truth in this hymn has served as a comfort to people. Countless people have known the tune all their life, then later realized how powerful the text is.
This had to be one of the sweetest moments for Walter and his family to experience together. Watch this heartwarming moment below that has the internet shedding a tear. Then listen for the beautiful harmonies that fill the room and put a smile on everyone's face!
