Little Girl With Huge Heart Earns Praise From State Troopers

Beth Shaffer Yost always tried to instill a strong set of values in her 9-year-old daughter, Brooke. From the time she was a baby, Beth showed her right from wrong, taught her age-appropriate responsibilities and that we should respect our local heroes like police and firemen.
So when Brooke stopped at a gas station near her home and had a run-in with the law, Beth was confused.
She had no idea that Brooke's encounter with State Trooper Chad Savannah was actually over something much different than she assumed...
Brooke stopped at the gas station to pick up a sweet treat - after walking back and forth between the aisles, she landed on the tasty donut holes. Brooke walked them to the checkout counter where the cashier proceeded to ring her up.
But when the cashier read the total, Brooke panicked! She didn't have enough money and didn't know what to do.
Without hesitation, Trooper Savannah piped up and offered to pay for her donuts.
Brooked happily accepted his offer, but knew she had to make things right immediately. She rushed home and began to write a letter to the kind officer.
"My name is Brooke and I am 9 years old. I was at Sheetz and didn't have enough money. A nice police officer behind me kindly paid for my item. I thanked him, but felt bad because I didn't offer him the money I had. So, I am donating this money. I want to thank this officer again.
After learning to be responsible for her actions, Brooke was determined to thank the officer and make sure he got his money back! The letter moved Trooper Savannah, so he gathered a few dollars from each of the troopers and sent her a $50 Toys R Us gift card.
Instead of spending the Toys R Us gift card on things she wanted, Brooke decided to give it away to children who really needed it. Brooke asked her mother to take her to the store so she could buy toys for the Toys for Tots program!
After hearing what Brooke did with their gift, the troopers invited her to the station where she got a full tour and a special donut treat!
All Brooke wanted to do was make things right with the trooper who helped her out in a pinch - she had no idea that her letter would have such a positive reaction!
