Couple Married 72 Years Die Holding Hands Then Miracle Happens

Sometimes it seems as if people just don't love each other the way they used to. Sure, plenty of people get married, but they don't stay that way. In a world where "coupling" and "uncoupling" are coldly used to describe the beginning and ending of a relationship, one has to wonder - whatever happened to true love?
Although it may seem like a rarity, everlasting love does still exist! Norma and Gordon Yeager certainly had it, and in their case, not even their very last breath could take that away from them.
The couple had ventured out for breakfast as they did every morning, but unfortunately neither of them would ever make it back home. They were rushed to the hospital and Gordon was soon pronounced dead, but when nurses looked back up at the heart monitor they were astounded by what they saw.
Like many couples from their generation, 94-year-old Gordon and 90-year-old Norma married young. In fact, they tied the knot the same day she graduated from high school - May 26, 1936. They stayed married for the next 72 years, and were practically inseparable!
Both of them were born in Iowa, and their youth was spent trying to survive the Great Depression. Although they moved to California for a short time, they returned to State Center, Iowa, where they stayed for the rest of their lives.
Norma and Gordon epitomized good, old-fashioned Midwestern family life. They were simple, hardworking folks who found happiness and joy in spending time with their friends, family, and God.
When their son Dennis was still young, he worried about what would happen if either mom or dad passed away. What would the other parent do? Gordon's answer was sweet, and as you'll come to see, very prophetic:
"I'd have to wait for her. She'd do the same for me."
Gordon stayed true to his word. One day when the couple drove to breakfast, which they did every single morning, they were involved in a terrible accident.
Norma and Gordon were immediately rushed to the hospital, where they barely clung to life. When their son and daughter arrived, they could see that mom and dad were holding hands.
Later that afternoon, Gordon passed away. In their final moments of life, their love for one another was miraculously kept alive. Everyone was astounded when hospital monitors recorded Norma's heart beating through Gordon's lifeless body. As impossible as that sounds, it all came down to what Gordon was holding onto when he passed.
His heart monitor was still beeping, and when their puzzled children asked what was going on, the nurse said:
"They are still holding hands. Her heart is beating through his."
Then exactly one hour later, down to the minute, Norma joined her husband. He was waiting for her just like he said he would. He was a gentleman to the very end, and he stuck around to hold open gates of heaven for the love of his life. One could say this was a beautiful ending to their love story, but the couple proved that true love never really ends.
