Bentley was just 18 months old when doctors diagnosed him with autism. Now, the bubbly five-year-old is the light of his parent's life and the center of attention at school. Since Bentley brings joy to so many people in his hometown of Chicago, Illinois, they wanted to do something amazing for him!
That's why they reached out to the Dude. be nice group and asked for their help. They were going to give Bentley the surprise of a lifetime...
Bentley's mother, Sammi, does her best to give her son a normal family life. However, there are some challenges that she knows her son will never overcome.
"We try to be as normal of a family as possible. Sometimes it works, sometimes it's not hard. Other times, we just have to step back and say, 'This is one of the things we can't do.'
It's a rollercoaster ride. But for every down there is, there's an up."
While not every day is easy when you're raising a child on the autism spectrum, Sammi knows that she wouldn't have things any other way. There are certain parts of her son's personality that just make her smile -- and one of those traits is his incredible passion when it comes to logos.
"It all started when he was about two-and-a-half years old. He just loved logos!"
His loving teachers noticed Bentley's obsession with logos as well. He would chat on about them for hours! From the colorful Tide logo to the swirly Crest design, there's something about logos that makes Bentley's heart skip a beat.
Even though there are a handful of logos that Bentley loves, his all-time favorite logo is that of Red Robin. The bright colors and bold font caught his eye a few years back and his love for the food chain hasn't wavered since.
"He was able to find a Red Robin commercial -- he started playing it over and over again. We'd ask him if he wanted to go to Red Robin and he answered yes! When we walked into Red Robin, he looked around. He was just amazed that he was in that world, that he was in that commercial.
His love for Red Robin is the strongest out of all the logos he's ever loved."
That love for Red Robin is why Bentley's friends and loved ones contacted the Dude. be nice (BDN) organization and asked for their help. They wanted to make Bentley's dream come true! Hearing about Bentley from his friends and family was enough for the DBN crew to jump on board.
They were going to make this moment something to remember!
Instead of simply surprising Bentley with a fun Red Robin party, the organized a commercial shoot starring Bentley himself! He was going to be a food critic that was bound and determined to try a classic Red Robin burger.
The moment Bentley walked into the Red Robin for his commercial, his face lit up! This was the best day ever -- and it was all about what he'd like to do.
Not only did he get to film a commercial that day, but he also got to watch it with his friends, family members and teachers later that night (with a tasty cheeseburger for dinner, of course). You can tell by the look on Bentley's face that this commercial was his dream, and now he gets to watch himself on television for real!
