Life recently threw 30-year-old Ashley Chestnut a curveball when it came to her health. As a young mom, Ashley concerned herself with caring for her toddler and a 5-month-old, but after the birth of her 5-month-old baby boy she immediately noticed something wasn’t right with her.
She couldn't put her finger on it, but she just had a feeling. It was at her 2-year-old daughter Gracie’s second birthday party that everything changed for the young mother of two...
During the party, Ashley walked away to breastfeed the baby and suddenly felt a pang hit her shoulder and chest as though a freight train were crashing into her. It completely knocked the wind out of her.
She couldn’t speak, talk or move. Concerned, she knew she couldn’t just brush this off as nothing when it had clearly rattled her and caused her much distress.
A few visits to the doctors later and the results were not what the family wanted: cancer. Following the doctors' prognosis, she immediately started treatments.
But Mom was devastated at the thought of having her baby boy’s first year robbed from her because of her health. It also bothered her that she couldn't nurse her baby, a gift of love that she now could not fulfill.
