It's easy to dismiss celebrities as self-centered elites who just look out for themselves. While that may be the case for some people in Hollywood, it's the opposite of what television star Ashton Kutcher is doing. Instead of wasting his time buying things he doesn't need or vacationing in some far-off land with his wife and former costar, Mila Kunis, Ashton spends his days defending the children who need it the most.
Now he's speaking out about their plight and how we can all help save these poor boys and girls...
Ashton found his true calling in life when he discovered the dark, horrific world of child sex trafficking. He was mortified to learn of their stories, the abuse and conditions they have to endure day-in and day-out. Upon learning about this, Ashton turned his attention to doing everything in his power to stop it.
So when the Today Show invited Ashton on for an interview, he made a point to bring up his personal mission to save these children. As soon as Kathie Lee Gifford asked what they could pray for him about, he came back with the perfect response.
"You know what you can pray for me about? I've got something.
I made a pledge that I was going to start fighting human trafficking. I started a foundation called 'Thorn' with my ex-wife and we're building digital tools to fight human trafficking.
So basically, the purchase and commerce of human trafficking is happening online, just like everything else now. We're building digital tools to fight back against it."
Ashton told Kathie Lee and Hoda that he felt devoted to these children.
"I said to myself: I don't want to live in a world where these things are happening and I'm not doing anything about them."
As if using his fame and fortune to raise awareness isn't enough, Ashton and his ex-wife, Demi Moore, started an organization when they were married to help eliminate child trafficking and pornography online permanently, and it still is in action today!
"We've built a tool to help law enforcement prioritize their caseload, recover victims and find traffickers. We've found, identified and recovered over 6,000 trafficking victims this year. We've found and identified over 2,000 traffickers.
My next commitment [is]... I'm going to eliminate child pornography from the Internet."
Even though Ashton could easily duck his head into the sand and ignore the plight of some of the world's most vulnerable victims, he got involved in a major way. Learn about how you can get help with his important mission by visiting his organization's website, Thorn.
Even a little effort can make a big difference for these children!
