While many people excitedly plan their Fourth of July parties full of fun and festivities, beloved actor Liam Neeson feels loss, pain and heartache leading up to this spectacular holiday. July 3 is Liam and wife Natasha Richardson's wedding anniversary, a day that breaks his heart.
July 3 was a blissful day that marked the beginning of a loving 16-year journey of marriage for the two actors. Liam even sweetly disclosed that Natasha serenaded him at their beautiful ceremony held in Northern Ireland, taking singing lessons in secret.

Natasha supported Liam's successful acting career and he buoyed hers. Together they raised two boys, Michéal and Daniel.
But in March 2009, Liam was on site in Toronto filming a movie when he received a fateful call. Natasha was learning how to ski at a resort in Quebec when she fell and hit her head.

They spoke briefly over the phone and she simply said she'd "taken a tumble in the snow." The dedicated couple had no idea that in just a few hours, that head injury would cause Natasha to slip away from her family forever.
Upon arriving at the hospital, Liam was shown Natasha's X-rays. He learned that she was alive, but was considered to be in a vegetative state and would never recover.
Liam remained secluded afterward for five years, but finally spoke out about his pain and the loss of his wife on 60 minutes. It was heartbreaking to hear him describe their final moments together.
“I went in to her and told her I loved her. Said, ‘Sweetie, you’re not coming back from this. You’ve banged your head. It’s – I don’t know if you can hear me, but that’s – this is what’s gone down. And we’re bringing ya back to New York. All your family and friends will come.”
The couple had agreed to be organ donors and Liam saw that promise through. By her passing away, Natasha gave life to three people even though she left three family members behind whose lives would never be the same again.
"They say the hardest thing in the world is losing someone you love. Someone you grew old with and watched grow everyday. Someone who showed you how to love. It’s the worst thing to ever happen to anyone. My wife died unexpectedly. She brought me so much joy. She was my everything. Those 16 years of being her husband taught me how to love unconditionally."
Each year as their wedding anniversary rolls around, Liam remembers the love they shared. He offered some sage words of advice for everyone to hold close to their hearts.
"We have to stop and be thankful for our spouses. Because, life is very short. Spend time with your spouses. Treat them well. Because, one day, when you look up from your phone, they won’t be there anymore. Live and love (every day) like it’s your last. Because, one day, it will be. Take chances and go live life. Tell the ones you love, that you love them every day."
Liam could not emphasize enough that people should not take any moment for granted. "Life is worth living," he said.
What beautiful memories he has to cling to and wonderful life instructions for the rest of us to remember and guide us through our own lives.
