Keith Urban Shares Heartfelt Advice For Demi Lovato

Keith Urban is no stranger to the dangers of living in the public eye. In fact, addiction and substance abuse almost cost Keith his relationship with the love of his life, Hollywood A-lister Nicole Kidman. So when Keith heard of another young star, Demi Lovato, struggling to stay away from the evil temptations of celebrity life, he made sure to speak up.
In the days since hearing of Demi's hospitalization after overdosing, Keith reached out with a heartfelt statement that's making waves online.
Even though he was the last person in the world Demi thought she would hear from after the incident, his words are obviously coming from a place of love and understanding...
Before Keith was the lovable family man we all adore today, he was a hard-raging, up-all-night partying, drink-until-it's-gone type of guy. In fact, Keith even contemplated ending his own life during the worst part of his journey through alcohol and drug abuse.
In an emotional interview with Rolling Stone, Keith admitted life wasn't something he cared too deeply about in the throes of his addiction:
Warning: Explicit Language
"I didn't seem able to stop. There was no stopping this time. I'd go to sleep, wake up a couple hours later, go at it again, drinking to take the edge off. I remember thinking, 'I'm probably not going to make it until tomorrow.'
And then I thought, '[Explictive] it, I don't care. It'll be a relief to not have to. I'll take an Ambien and, at some point, I'll pass.
I was taking everything. I remember thinking, 'Oh, good, this is the end of it, yahoo.' I was quite happy about it...
Well, I woke up the next day at lunchtime, in my bed, sweating, going, '[Explictive]! Guess I'm not going to get to go this way.' I thought the choice to quit would be taken from me, which would be easier than me trying to do it on my own. There was [drugs] left, so I went at it again."
Thankfully, Keith entered treatment shortly after recognizing his lifestyle wasn't healthy. Doing drugs, drinking all day and wasting his life wasn't part of the "creative process" - it was a cry for help. So when Keith heard that same cry from Demi, he knew he had to pipe up...
While speaking to the Australian morning show Today Extra recently, Keith opened up about his own struggles with addiction and one of the most important things he learned along the way.
He said staying sober all has to do with the people we surround ourselves with:
"I don't know anything about her personally, [but I'd love to tell her ] just (to have) good people around her and a willingness to want to live a different way if that's what she wants to do. It's all up to her."
With the right characters by her side, Demi has the chance to really restart her life. She's come so far - and one relapse doesn't mean it was all for nothing!
Demi has the mental tools in her toolbelt to overcome this demon again and get back on the right track.
All she needs to do is a look at Keith! After battling addiction, he's is a happy father, devoted father, and an international superstar. That's the only thing we want for Demi - a lifetime of happiness!
