Screaming Interrupts Wedding Photos Prompting Groom To Act

It was a beautiful, glorious, sunny day on the beach in Alabama -- the perfect setting for Zac and Cindy Edwards' wedding. The pair could not have asked for a more serene and calm day to say I do.
Cindy was dressed in her stunning strapless gown while Zac was sharply clothed in a crisp white dress shirt and tan pants. They sauntered together along the coastline at Orange Beach to seek out the perfect spot for their wedding photos after the ceremony.
A teenager was struggling in the water, bobbing up and down and unable to stay afloat. Zac is a marine science technician with the U.S. Coast Guard and glanced at his brand new wife for a brief second.
She acknowledged what needed to be done. The wedding guests were shocked when Zac ripped off his dress shirt, sprinted toward the water and dove in.
"I took off my shirt, but my wife said I didn't have time to take off my pants. I ran into the water. I told some kids to go back to the beach and I took a boogie board out."
Zac battled wicked waves and swam 150 feet out into the ocean to rescue the 18-year-old male. When Zac reached him, the struggling swimmer told him he couldn't breathe.
"I tried to keep his head above water and I propped him up onto the boogie board. The current was really strong and it was stopping us coming in any further. I was starting to panic slightly. The pants were making it hard to kick, too. But when I saw the first responders I knew it was going to be okay."
A jet ski swooped by and Zac managed to push him safely up onto it. First responders were already present for another emergency and quickly switched gears to help Zac.
"I didn’t really take in the gravity of the situation until I laid down that night. Afterwards, my hands were shaking but the adrenaline was just pumping."
Cindy feared for her new husband's life, that he was tiring out trying to keep the swimmer's head above water. She told Metro she noticed he was struggling for a bit himself as he pushed through the fierce waves.
"I wasn’t panicked until they were swimming back in. I could tell Zac was tiring and they couldn’t get over the current. They had stopped and I was worried. Thank God the first responders arrived."
Wedding guests were puzzled when Zac and Cindy arrived at the reception covered in sand and Zac soaking wet. When they learned what had transpired during the wedding photo session, they could not believe it!
Pastor Glenn Henson officiated their wedding and commended Zac for his bravery. Both Zac and Cindy have three children each, but he did not hesitate to rescue the struggling swimmer.
"It was incredible. The fact that this man took time out of his special day to save someone else was really special. I talked to Cindy and Zac afterwards and we definitely think it was fate that he was there. It was providential."
Every wedding has its memorable moments, but this one definitely will not be easily forgotten. How wonderful that Zac charged into the water on his wedding day to rescue someone in need of help.
