Teen Wins Greatest Loser And Goes On To Be Hunky Firefighter

Teenage years for Sam Rouen were difficult. He was overweight, socially awkward and lacked the motivation to make any major change in his life. Even though he played sports and tried to be active, his dietary habits prevented him from truly getting healthy.
But then Sam heard of an incredible opportunity: a chance to go on The Biggest Loser, a weight loss reality show.
Sam knew this show was the push he needed to get his life together. Now, 10 years after taking home The Biggest Loser championship, Sam is healthier than ever and is completely unrecognizable!
Fans tuned in every week to watch 19-year-old Sam and the other contestants work off their extra weight. Not only did the coaches help Sam with exercises for his personal mission, they also taught him how to live a healthy lifestyle. This was the factor that Sam really struggled with in his teenage years. Junk food, mental weakness, and lounging around were all out the window when the coaches got involved!
By the end of the show, Sam lost 158 pounds and took home the first place prize.
In a recent interview, Sam toldThe Daily Telegraph that his 158-pound weight loss more than 10 years ago hasn't changed the mental problems he struggles with on a daily basis.
"I'm still extremely self-conscious... I still don't like taking my shirt off - even at the beach."
Despite his impressive new body, Sam still doesn't feel comfortable showing it off!
While he's still not used to his slender figure, Sam does enjoy the stress relief time at the gym gives him. Over the years, his gym turned into a safe place and personal haven!
"I'm addicted to working out now, I definitely love running and working out with my brother. I play a bit of sport to stay in shape and also work out in the gym."
As a firefighter in his home country of Austrailia, Sam knows how important it is to stay physically fit. His life (and the life of his fellow firefighters) depends on it! If a burning building collapses, he needs the strength and stamina to break free, save residents and his co-workers.
With all of the attention surrounding Sam's impressive new physique, the firefighters from his town decided he was going to participate in their annual "sexy" calendar. He was apprehensive about the shoot - and, it turns out, for good reason. Sam says his co-workers' teasing is far worse than anything he experienced when he was overweight!
"I was pretty lucky in high school and had a good group of friends who were really supportive, so it was never too bad then.
It's worse now. I've been getting a bit of a ribbing from the guys at the station, they've been calling me ‘calendar boy' and stuff like that. But it's all in good fun."
He knows they're joking and wouldn't change his life now for anything.
A decade after Sam's incredible transformation, he looks as good as ever! The ripped firefighter has a good head on his shoulders and a heart the size of Texas. In fact, he's stopped by The Biggest Loser set since his championship to help other contestants with their own weight loss journeys.
Sam's life is better than he could've imagined 10 years ago. He's healthy, happy and working the job of his dreams.
We wish Sam nothing but the best in the years to come!
