It's not every day you get to hear not one country music superstar, but three at the same time! That's exactly what happened to one lucky audience attending a benefit for Country Music Museum and Hall of Fame.
Country music's sweetheart, Dolly Parton, took the stage alongside two other greats, Vince Gill and Keith Urban, for a breathtakingly beautiful rendition of "He Stopped Loving Her Today." No one could've expected their unique sounds to come together in such a flawless manner...
Even though we all know George Jone's original version of "He Stopped Loving Her Today," the meaning behind the lyrics is often glazed over due to George's incredible voice.
Bobby Braddock and Curly Putman were the ones to pen the words about a friend who never gave up on his long lost love. No matter how many years passed, he kept looking back on old keepsakes of their relationship. This heartbroken man never gave up that she would return to him one day. They would put all of their painful memories in the past and move forward with their love.
The song concludes by explaining there was a point when he stopped loving her – the day he died. And, true to his wish, she did return to see him one last time at his funeral.
Dolly, Vince and Keith were able to convey this emotional message perfectly – the audience sat in awe as they belted every word. As soon as the trio wrapped up their performance of "He Stopped Loving Her Today," the crowd roared with applause.
This performance was clearly something that would only happen once in a lifetime, and they felt lucky to have seen it in real life. Thankfully, one bright audience member thought to share this special moment online for all country music fans to experience.
We can only hope these three legends come together again in the future!
