The members of Pentatonix back and they're ready to send chills down everyone's spine with their beautiful rendition of "Mary Did You Know." Instead of doing the same old' same old when it came to this classic hit, the group decided to add a little modern-day flare.
Their revamped arrangement on this already-beautiful song is enough to bring a tear to our eye and put us in the Christmas spirit. There's truly no one else out there with their unique style acapella style...
Even though "Mary Did You Know" is one of the widely known Christmas songs on the planet, its background has been kept under wraps. Most people nowadays don't know that this song was originally written three decades ago, back in 1984 by Mark Lowry.
"At the cross on Mount Calvary, while Jesus was dying, [Mary's] silence was a great testimony to the fact of who he was and is. He said to them, 'When you have seen me, you have seen the Father.' Of course, for this they nailed him to a cross, and his mother never said a word.
As my mind went back to the manger scene, I began to think about the power, authority and majesty she cradled in her arms. Those little lips were the same lips that had spoken worlds into existence. All of those things were contained in the young child lying quietly on her bosom. Even now, he was the very one who had given life to his mother, Mary.
I began writing a list of questions I would like to ask Mary if I could sit down with her - questions such as, 'Mary, do you know who is in your arms?'
'Did you know the one who holds creation together, and the one who holds you together is lying helpless in the manger?'
'Did you know that your baby boy will walk on water, give sight to a blind man and calm a storm at sea with his hand?'"
These questions were at the heart of Mark's beautiful song. In the time since its release, "Mary Did You Know" has been remade and remixed by hundreds of other talented musicians! Despite all of the remakes, no one has been able to do it as beautifully as Pentatonix!
They have a certain sound that compliments the lyrics - and the group's musically diverse background adds layers of complexity to their rendition.
The five skilled vocalists from Texas put their talents on display for the world to see as they gently crooned out each note. Not only did they have excellent superstar presence in front of the cameras, but they were able to sing in perfect harmony!
It's hard not to get goosebumps from head to toe while watching the group sing this timeless holiday tune! Get your hot chocolate, eggnog, mistletoe and wrapping paper ready - this rendition of the iconic song is a clear signal that Christmas is right around the corner!
Only a few more "sleeps" until Santa comes to town!
