Judges Cringe Over Nervous Girl's Voice But Seconds Later They Can't Spin Around Fast Enough

One can only imagine that the hardest part about being a judge on The Voice Kids Portugal is learning how to avoid crushing a poor child's heart after a terrible audition. Unfortunately, being honest and tactful without hurting someone's feelings is a skill that not everyone has got a handle on.
When a very nervous Matilde Leite started to sing, the judges immediately made some dissatisfied faces and cringed at her off-key rendition of a Christmas classic. Fortunately the girl couldn't see their expressions, because at that point none of them had spun around to insist that she join their team. It was only seconds later that the judges suddenly changed their tune, and their eyes went wide when they heard a powerful voice carry across the room.
As adults, we are supposed to encourage kids to follow their dreams, even when they might not necessarily be the best at it. However, when a kiddo has more than a slight crack in their singing voice, you'd think that their parents would try to dissuade their mini-me from embarrassing themselves in front of millions of people on live TV.
When the judges first heard Matilde open her mouth and croon "All I Want For Christmas Is You," it was quite obviously a painful thing for them to listen to. One of the judge's even made a sour face, as if her ears could suddenly taste the tartness of a lemon!
At one point during the audition poor Matilde was so nervous, she took a hard swallow and choked-up in the middle of a lyric. One of the judges threw her hands up in the air and almost told the girl to just stop. As someone who has heard of lot of voices in her time, she knew that not everyone was cut out to be a singer.
The lone male judge on the show kept smiling in an attempt to keep everything lighthearted, but it was apparent by the way he tightly gripped the panel in front of him that all he wanted for Christmas was for the audition to finally be over!
Just when the panel of coaches thought they would have to send Matilde home in tears, the girl finally managed to find her power center and overcome the nervousness that had gripped her just moments earlier. After turning the tables on her off-key singing, the judges were amazed at her seemingly effortless transition to sounding absolutely fantastic!
It just goes to show that although first impressions are lasting ones, it's never too late to change people's minds. A little stumble here or there is often exactly what's needed to make you stronger than ever. And that's why parents encourage their kids to follow their dreams, because they know that small failures can lead to great success!
