Detroit PD Gets Visit That Will Stick With Them Forever

There's no denying the world is changing, chaotic place - and for some reason, the level of violence shown towards police officers is heightened now more than ever. Our brave men and women in uniform put their lives at risk every single day to protect our own, but they're often the focus of heinous acts themselves.
That being said, police stations across the nation are, understandably, keeping their guard up more than they used to. One of the many cities keep an extra close eye on their officers is Detroit.
Police officers there realize they need to watch their backs these days. Sadly, Detroit is known as a dangerous city - and because of it, police lives have become a target. With all of the danger, crime and poverty enveloping the city, Detroit police officers are on edge.
So when a little girl walked into the police station with a group of people behind her, the officers perked up. There have been attacks in stations before - they weren't going to be caught off guard in a similar situation. The officers listened carefully as the little girl, nine-year-old Samya McLaughlin, announced that it was her birthday.
Then, with her parents standing proudly behind her, Samya reached into her bag. She pulled out a variety of handmade lunches! According to the sweet little one, she spent her own free time and hard-earned money preparing the meals for the officers.
Before getting the bright idea to drop off the lunches, Samya had awesome birthday plans in motion. Her parents bought a cake, invited friends and planned the perfect party for their soon-to-be nine-year-old. But after seeing everything that was going with police officers in her city, Samya canceled her plans and headed straight to her local police station.
Samya's parents weren't going sugarcoat the real issues going on all around them. Samya saw the news and started asking questions - valid questions about her identity, law enforcement and how everyone can coexist peacefully in our wonderful nation.
Fortunately, her parents answered her many questions in a healthy manner. They gave her a glimpse of what the world can really be like from time to time and made sure she understood that she could make a positive difference in the world.
That's why she pooled her own money to make delicious (and well-rounded) lunches for the officers. The lunch packs included sandwiches, chips, fruit, and a tasty cookie. The caring nine-year-old did this to show the police officers that what they do is very important to the community. Boy, did the officers sure feel appreciated by her incredible act of kindness.
Despite everything that is going on in our country and around the world, we have to remember that we are all human beings. We all feel love and joy, fear and pain, regardless of our religious beliefs, skin color, background or orientation.
