Mom's Car Breaks Down After Daughters Brain Surgery When Stranger Offers To Help Unaware Of His History

To say it was a "manic Monday" for Amanda Fessler was quite an understatement. Amanda had rushed over to the hospital after attending her aunt's funeral, so she could pick up her daughter who had recently been discharged after having brain surgery. Just when the frazzled mom thought her life couldn't get any more stressful, her car broke down and started smoking in the middle lane of a busy highway.
Thankfully a tow truck managed to haul her car off the road, and then dropped her off at a nearby hotel. The next morning when a total stranger offered to help Amanda fix her car, she thought her luck had finally turned around, and agreed to let him open up the hood and have a look.
However, she had no idea that this man actually had a secret history of approaching vulnerable people exactly like her. It was only after his face was all over the news that Amanda finally learned the truth about who he really was!
Amanda didn't know his last name at the time, but Donta Thompson was known around town for doing what he does best - helping people fix their cars. On her Facebook page, Amanda gave a shoutout to the stranger who saved her from having a total meltdown:
"This man (Donta) recognized our distress in the morning while trying to replace the car's serpentine belt. He not only offered his tools, he came in and saved the day. Not many people would have been so generous and rushed to the aid to help others. His assistance came at a real time of need."
The morning after her car broke down, Amanda's fiance had to call for an Uber not once, but twice, in order to get to an Auto Zone to buy a serpentine belt. But, as you can probably guess, it was actually the wrong part! After going back a second time to get the correct belt, Amanda's fiance struggled to get it into place. That's when Donta volunteered his expertise.
Donta is the chief engineer at the Hampton Inn & Suites where Amanda was staying at, but he loves being an unofficial car mechanic. His timing in offering to help fix Amanda's car was absolutely perfect!
"Our check out time was growing near and my daughter desperately needed to get home to recover from her brain surgery. I could not thank him enough for all that he did. Please help me show him some love by sharing this post in hopes that it finds him. He was definitely our angel that day... ?? - at Hampton Inn & Suites by Hilton Wilmington Christiana."
Donta called the front desk, and after explaining Amanda's situation, he asked if she could get a late check-out. Then he rolled up his sleeves and went right to work!
Amanda told Delaware Online that Donta went above and beyond an everyday random act of kindness. He basically spent his own personal time fixing her car for free, and he expected nothing in return! Turns out Donta has a history of doing this for random strangers in need stating, "I do it all the time. I try to help."
"Donta quickly offered his help to us and was able to guide us on how to get the old belt off. He then put the new serpentine belt on for us and instructed us to add more antifreeze so we would not overheat on the way home. With his help, we were able to make it home safely and my daughter was finally able to get the rest she needed to recover."
Donta was alerted to Amanda's Facebook post a couple of days later, and by that time his kindness and generosity had already received over 5,400 positive reactions. It totally blew him away! He said that to him it didn't seem like anything out of the ordinary. He likes to fix other people's vehicles because he's a good mechanic and it doesn't matter who it is. If someone needs help, he doesn't think twice about helping them out. What a nice guy. This sweet angel is proof positive that everyday miracles can and do happen all the time.
