How Little Boy Buys $80 Gift For Mom At Target For Only $20

Gabe was at Target shopping with his mom and Christmas Eve, when he suddenly announced that he had an important errand to run. However, his mother, who goes by the name of El Marie on Facebook, was nonplussed and happy to let him wander around the store while she busied herself with some last-minute shopping of her own.
It was only when a stranger approached and said that Gabe was an absolute angel that she knew her son was up to something; Confused, she thought to herself, "Ooooh-kaay" before continuing to go about her business. It was only when Gabe greeted her outside the store with a large box in his hands that El Marie lost it! Without a dime to his name, he had somehow managed to swindle everyone into helping him give her this unexpected surprise.
Even though Gabe was as broke as any kid could possibly be, he was determined to walk out of Target with a Christmas gift for his mom. On her Facebook page, El Marie described the surrealness of it all when total strangers started praising her son.
"...as I approached the checkout, I noticed three or four employees scurrying around, and giving me sly looks. One was carrying a roll of wrapping paper. Gabe comes running over to me with "Mom, don't look. Dont come yet. I'm not through with your gift yet."
Mom knew that Target doesn't gift wrap presents, so she was baffled as to why they would agree to play Santa's helper's for her kid.
Children can sometimes be more enterprising than we give them credit for, and they're also a lot braver! As adults we've learned to restrain ourselves out of fear of rejection, but kids aren't encumbered by the silly notion of someone saying "no." They just keep going until someone says "yes!"
"Gabe. . How did you pay for this? And. . . Target doesn't wrap presents. How did you get this one wrapped?"
He shrugged, and simply said that he didn't want her to see it, so the employees agreed to wrap it up for him in order to keep its contents a secret. But, that begged the bigger question of how he actually paid for the gift in the first place.
"Gabe: 'I just need that $20 I made from working at your job last week.' I give him the money, and hide my eyes. He completes his transaction while people in line are grinning, and nodding their heads. Cashier(grinning): 'Your son really loves you! He is one terrific kid!' I smile and thank her, pleased but confused."
The confusion deepened even further when mom discovered that the item was actually $80, but she had only handed Gabe a $20.
El Marie lost it emotionally speaking when her son finally fessed up and told her the truth. He hadn't paid for it, at least not all of it. After telling the woman standing in line behind him that he wanted this to be a surprise for his mom, the stranger quickly handed over the remaining $60 to Gabe. After a moment of stunned silence, El Marie found her voice and stammered:
"'Wh. . aat, Gabe? What lady? Did you know her? Did you thank her?'
Gabe nonchalantly said that he thanked the woman a "whole bunch" and even gave her a hug.
"Who does something so generous, in an effort to help my son bless me? And. . What kid walks into Target without a dime in his pocket, determined to buy his mom a gift, and leaves, mission accomplished??? Only my Gabe! To the lady in Target in line behind my son.. . Ditto what Gabe said: BLESS YOU."
The overwhelmed mom said that she "would really like to thank the woman who showed my Chocolate Drop love in action, and renewed my faith in people." El Marie also hopes that her story will be shared, so that she can find the stranger with a big heart and thank her in person for the kindness she showed her family that day.
The cat is finally out of the bag when mom opens up her gift.
