Father's Day is a special day for fathers everywhere. It's a day for families to show special appreciation and recognition to all the hard work a father does. It's also great for discounts and sales!
But one little girl had something to say about wishing people "Happy Father's Day." Her mother told her to greet her grandfather, but she refused, saying she had no plans of saying, "Happy Father's Day!" to her PawPaw.
Little Hadley looked like a little blue-eyed, blonde-haired angel. Her cherubic charm made the audience laugh when she appeared on Little Big Shots. The show's host, Steve Harvey, began the segment with one question. Why did Hadley refuse to wish her grandfather, whom she loved very much, a Happy Father's Day?
Hadley's reason was very practical, though. She said with a straight face:
"He ain't my father. Why would I do it?"
The audience erupted into laughter, and even Steve Harvey had to take a moment to let it all out of his system. While the little girl was sitting down, a passive look on her face, Steve might as well have been rolling on the floor laughing. When he finally recovered, he told Hadley that they were going to show a video of her talking about refusing to say "Happy Father's Day" to her grandfather.
The little girl was in the middle of talking to her mother, who wanted her to wish her PawPaw a Happy Father's Day. Hadley told her mother that she had already said it to her own father, and that her mother should do the same with hers. Then, her mother said that she was, in fact, going to send wishes to her dad, but she wanted Hadley to do the same. It was at that point that the girl looked like she had seen a two-headed goat.
"That's weird. We ain't sisters.... I ain't goin' to. That ain't my father! He's my PawPaw."
Her last sentence made the entire crowd go, "Awww." After watching the video, even little Hadley had to smile at her antics. Steve tried to explain to her why it was common to greet other older men "Happy Father's Day" even if they weren't Hadley's father. The little girl, however, refused to budge.
So, Steve revealed to Hadley a surprise -- in the form of her PawPaw walking on stage! The close bond between the two couldn't be denied. Even though Hadley was shy, she was smiling widely when she was told to stand beside her grandfather.
Finally, Steve wore little Hadley's stubbornness down. Together with the audience, she told her grandfather, "Happy Father's Day, PawPaw!"
Children's innocence and the simple ways they see life often make us appreciate the blessings we have.
