Competitions are supposed to make participants try their best to get ahead of each other. It's when one is supposed to think about nothing but oneself and how the'll win the game.
In a surprising turn of events, the fans, audience, and judges of the 16th season of American Idol saw more than that during the finale. Apart from witnessing victory, they also saw two people showing the world how they are deeply in love with each other. It was indeed amusing to watch!
During the finale, Caleb Lee and Maddie Poppe performed a mash-up of two really popular songs in history- "What A Wonderful World" and "Somewhere Over the Rainbow". Their version was captivating and the way the audience swayed their hands to the melody of the song was enchanting. They were even holding up lights of different colors, giving the song a lot more impact.
On top of the visual effects, what gave their performance more depth was the way they look at each other as they were singing. It was magical and full of spark. And when Caleb held Maddie's hand, everyone felt that love was on the air.
And true enough, when host Ryan Seacrest asked Caleb about what made the song special to him, he admitted that it's actually easy singing the song with Maddie because he was his girlfriend.
With that, everyone in the studio went into a frenzy. Each person watching them, including the judges, expressed genuine happiness for the couple.
At the end of the show, Maddie was announced as the winner. Even though Caleb wasn't able to get the grand prize, he was still happy and proud because it was his girlfriend who won.
The result, however, wasn't that surprising. Maddie is a really talented artist and it was obvious even during her younger years. Believe it or not, she's often writing songs in class instead of listening to her lessons.
She started performing when she was just in middle school, attending the local community college. She would perform with her father who also happens to be a musician and guitarist. She would perform with her sister in local talent shows, too.
In 2016, Maddie was able to release her very first album called Songs from the Basement. That's one year from her first audition in American Idol where she performed "Rainbow Connection". After the judges heard her voice for the first time, they knew that she's a truly precious artist with a voice that tells stories.
Maddie's talent is something you won't get to witness every day.
