Rita hails from the town of Herzele, and is the mother of Jessy from the dance group, The MacKenzie. She wowed everyone in the room with her breathtaking rendition of Etta James' "At Last" with her recent audition on The Voice Senior..
The Voice Senior is a talent-search television program in Belgium. Based on the concept of The Voice Holland and The Voice Kids, The Voice Senior is open to participants who are sixty years and above. The Voice Senior is presented by TV and Radio presenter An Lemmens, and the judges for Season 1 include Flemish recording artist and performer Natalia, Belgian singer and presenter Walter Grootaers, Belgian tenor singer-songwriter Helmut Lotti, and Belgian singer Dana Winner.
The Voice Senior follows the format of The Voice franchise series. The telecast starts with a blind audition, where contestants audition with the judges' backs turned. The judges have one minute (the length of each participant's audition) to decide if they want to mentor the singer or not. If they want to mentor the participant, they press the button and their chair automatically turns. If two or more judges turn, then the participant will have to decide which judge they want to work with.
During the next stage, the battle phase, two members of each team will battle it out against each other with the same song. The coach then chooses which member will advance to the next round, the live show. The remaining four members of each team compete against each other and the public votes for one member to advance and the judge chooses which member to save.
During the Final 8 round, the contestants perform against each other and the public and the judges choose which member advances to the final round. The Final 4 compete against each other with the public choosing the eventual winner of The Voice Senior.
Rita, who advanced to Team Helmet, actually did not want to audition for the show at first. She said she was already 65-years-old, who would want to listen to her? She'd been singing since she was 16 but stopped a long time ago. But, unbeknownst to her, her daughter, Jessy, signed her up to the show and she had no choice but to go through with the audition.
But when she took that microphone and sang her heart out, she realized the fire to sing never left her. Now, she wants to perform on stage again. And her ultimate goal now is to go on tour, singing her heart out.
