There are people who prefer to keep to themselves just because, and then there are those who shy away from everybody else because of a lack of confidence that stems from inalterable circumstances. For twenty-nine-year-old Rodelle Borja, it's a speech impediment that gets in the way of everyday conversation and confidently interacting with the people he works with and meets along the way. Already a naturally shy person, the young Filipino nurse based in Dublin, Ireland shares how great of a hindrance he believes his stutter is. Surprisingly though, he finds that singing is the best way for him to express himself. In fact, he shows his affection to his patients by sharing his talent and singing to them.
Fortunately, he has never allowed his stutter to get in the way of his determination to make a difference. He feels that through his talent, he can inspire those who struggle with the same communication disorder to find the right outlets for self-expression. It is greatly admirable when a person who combats certain conditions chooses to step out of his comfort zone and push against the difficulties. Rodelle's shy nature may have been brought about by his stutter but his passion for singing has enabled him to come out of his shell and showcase his talent on Ireland's Got Talent.
It's amazing how a person who struggles with shyness has seemingly no difficulty getting up onstage to sing for a notable panel of judges, a live audience, and pretty much the entire world. Louis Walsh, an Irish entertainment manager and one of the judges on the talent search show, sensed Rodelle's nervousness and tried to make him feel better by reminding him to stay calm and enjoy the experience. The Filipino singer chose a classic love song to sing: "Can't Help Falling In Love" by Elvis Presley. He didn't try to sing it the way the popular music icon did - he gave it a modern take with his smooth vocals and unique singing style.
Rodelle's soothing voice prompted smiles and applause from the judges and the audience. You'll notice him warm up to the crowd, and his confidence rise as he continues to sing. He sang the song with such emotion, complete with gestures, that it earned him a standing ovation from the judges and the audience.
