TV viewers of NBC's recent tribute got to witness an all-star lineup of country music and mainstream pop singers croon to the star's classic hit tunes. Carrie Underwood, Keith Urban, Little Big Town, and Dierks Bentley are just a few examples of the talent that showed up on the network's show, which honored the singer by recreating his '68 Comeback Tour.
With host Blake Shelton at the helm, the show also featured stunning performances by pop singers Jennifer Lopez, John Legend, and Post Malone. But, it was Ed Sheeran who had fans falling in love the minute he opened his mouth to sing.
As Blake Shelton explained to the audience, not everyone was alive, or old enough, remembers that Elvis recorded much of his music at Nashville's historic RCA Studio B. Even less people know that this particular beloved classic was actually the final song that he ever performed live. No one knew that his 1977 concert at the Market Square Arena in Indianapolis, Indiana, would be his last.
It's only fitting that the tribute song was sung by Ed Sheeran, who has a fan base of ladies who aren't shy about falling in love with him, too. But, unlike all the copycat impersonators out there, Ed didn't try to match perfeclty in pitch, tone, or looks. Instead, he made the song all his own.
Most of the performances by the other music artists were filmed in Los Angeles on a set that was purposely made to look like the famous '68 Comeback special, but Ed Sheeran's hypnotizing performance was actually filmed last fall at Ocean way Nashville Recording Studios.
Although all the celebrity stars had their names blazed all over the lineup for this tribute show, there were 16 anonymous vocalists who didn't. A chorus of lucky students from Belmont University's School of Music provided the backup vocals for Ed Sheeran as he sang and their lovely voices deserve recognition, too! The chorus was assembled by the school's Associate Professor of Music, Dr. Jeffrey Ames, who was also the one who wrote the special arrangement that Ed Sheeran sang for the show.
In his typical Ed Sheeran fashion, the shy singer had his eyes closed for most of the performance. It wasn't because he doesn't want to look at all of his adoring fans, it just means that he's gone inward to tune himself into the emotions of the beautiful lyrics.
He's simply dressed in a pair of dark denim jeans, and there's a black t-shirt peeking through the long-sleeved flannel top he's wearing. Whereas Elvis had his fans drooling over his moves, it's Ed's soothing voice that has all the ladies swooning at his feet. As soon as Ed opens his mouth to sing the all-too familiar lyrics, the audience went quiet to take in all the soothing, feel-good vibes.
This is exactly why fans are in love with Ed Sheeran gorgeous voice!
