When it comes to pursuing dreams and passion, a lot of us are willing to let go of what we currently have to make way for a better future. And for that to happen, we need to be brave, determined, and persistent.
For country music fan John Rafferty, he was willing to let go of his stint in the local clubs of Belfast as a Garth Brooks impersonator to pursue his dream of becoming a well-known and successful singer. As the 4th Northern Irish contestant to join The Voice, he put up a really good fight.
John performed "Take Me Home, Country Roads" which is a John Denver classic. The familiar melody and lyrics instantly took the judges' attention that they started humming and singing along to the song.
John's performance was flawless. His enunciation of the lyrics was clear and his notes were spot on. Everyone in the studio was enjoying his performance. Some of them were even clapping their hands to the melody.
On a separate room, John's family was in full support. Wearing white shirts with "Come On Raffo" printed in front, they were cheering John on while urging the judges to press their buttons and turn around.
For a moment, everyone thought Tom Jones would press his button as he held his hand on top of it. Unfortunately, he held back and decided otherwise. John's performance ended and none of the judges turned for him.
Despite that, no one can deny how talented John is. He sang the song flawlessly and he delivered a performance everybody was able to enjoy at that moment. That's not something a lot of people can do.
"Take Me Home, Country Roads" was initially performed in 1971 and it instantly took the number 2 spot on Billboard's US Hot 100 singles. It was certified gold and platinum in the same year. Because of how popular the song became, it was considered as John Denver's signature song.
It's a beloved hit that is known across all musical genres and holds a special place in the heart of every John Denver fan.
John's rendition of the song was simply amusing and entertaining.
