Living miles apart from your loved ones is a sacrifice that not everyone can commit to. From preparing to leave to saying goodbye, the process takes its toll on one's emotions the most. While it's usually for the noblest of reasons, it's something one wishes he didn't really have to do, whether it's a dad that needs to work overseas, a mother who works as a flight attendant, or a sibling that joins the armed forces. Committing to a job that requires being away from family and friends takes a lot of bravery. Saying goodbye isn't the toughest part. It's fighting homesickness, especially during the holidays, that takes a lot of effort.
While all the members of the family have to accept the circumstances and do their fair share of adjusting, the situation seems to be harder on certain members of the family: those who are closest to the person who needs to leave. For this family, it's the little brother who seems to hold the strongest attachment. His big brother, a member of the marines, decided to come home one day and surprise him with the help of the family.
Unlike past decades when handwritten letters and telegrams were the only tools of long distance communication, we are fortunate enough to have mobile devices and applications that make keeping in touch easier. Video calls, chatting, and text messaging can be done effortlessly. Despite these, though, there is nothing like reuniting and catching up in person. Conversations face to face supersede talking online anytime. In this video, the eager, blindfolded little boy was instructed to hold out both hands for a surprise. A hat was placed on his palms. After feeling the object, the boy guessed correctly but was a bit stumped as to why he was being surprised with a hat.
He was even asked what kind of hat it was. The confused young man, after removing his blindfold, agreed that the hat was a nice surprise, especially knowing it was the same type of hat his brother was required to wear. When the little boy turned around and caught sight of his brother, who was standing behind him the entire time, he fell over in surprise and immediately stood up and ran to his brother who swooped him up in a hug. The little boy burst into tears and wrapped his arms around his brother tightly.
This precious moment shows that being reunited with the people we love most makes the distance and all the sacrifices worth it.
There is nothing like the love of family to fill the emptiness of distance.
