Teen Goes Viral For Hand-Painting Her Own Graduation Dress

Thanks to Disney movies and fairytales, little girls all around the world dreaming of the day when they finally get to wear a fancy ballroom dress like Cinderella. But, they don't have to wait too long to see that dream come true. Teenagers get to make some of the most important formal wear decisions of their lives as soon as high school prom and graduation are on the radar.
The only problem is, choosing the perfect dress for high school graduation can sometimes be tougher than taking the final tests! But, for one recent grad in the Philippines, it was actually no problem at all. Dressmaking can sometimes end up looking less than stellar in inexperienced hands, but Ciara Gan was still intent on going the DIY route with her graduation gown.
Thankfully, Ciara has a true talent for design, sewing, and painting! She was so proud of her accomplishment, she shared the end result on Twitter:
"I made and painted my own gown for my graduation ball! I painted over 80 flowers, sewed, and stoned my dress with my mama and designed the whole thing myself!"
The teen told FOx 5 that someone else was supposed to make the gown, but it ended up looking horrible. So, Ciara took the 13 yards of fabric, pilon, regiline, crinoline, and Swarovski crystals, and went to work designing her dream dress.
"My mom and I made... sewed each panel of the skirt one-by-one (there are about 12-13 I think!) It took me about a whole month to make the whole thing (conceptualizing and drafting)."
Five days out of that month were spent gingerly painting the 80 plus flowers on the dress by hand!
Ciara's inspiration for the pretty gown came from her mom, who encouraged her to make the dress. It had nothing to do with getting famous, which she had no idea would even happen.
"I really wanted my dress to reflect my personality, thus the lilies and bright colors. My dress tells a very personal story about the things I hold close to my heart - lilies, the color green, painting, and creating new things."
The sweet teen just wanted to wear something that was a reflection of her heart-centered personality. And boy does it really shine through!
Ciara said that she makes art because it's happy and liberating, and it makes her feel like "nothing else matters." Even though she has an obvious talent for combing dressmaking and art, the teen has no plans on pursuing art in college.
"I actually want to develop more skills... that’s why I’m taking up a science-related course instead. I want to be able to hone my skills in the arts, but learn something totally different along the way!"
If her science skills are anything like her amazing artistic talents, then the world better watch out for whatever Ciara creates next!
