Dogs are the only animals recognized as man's best friend. No one knows for certain when this charming idea came about but we can guess how it inspired the concept. While there are numerous breeds, all of which differ in temperament, dogs share traits that make them truly lovable: their patience, the way they tirelessly offer companionship, their ability to provide comfort and security and most importantly, their loyalty. These qualities are what make them perfect candidates for jobs such as herding, detection, therapy, search and rescue, and so forth.
Most stories told by policemen, soldiers, and veterans involve the significant role of dogs in their survival. Children find comfort in their furry companions. People who are too sick to carry out the usual daily routine rely on well-trained canines to help by bringing them the objects they need, assisting them in walking, sitting, and standing, and serving as their eyes and ears when needed. Dogs are more than just adorable pets - they are incredible animals that rightfully deserve to be called man's best friend.
In the talent search television show Britain's Got Talent, most individuals exhibit skills in singing, dancing, painting, and the like. Forty-two-year-old Dave chose something different yet meaningful. He went onstage accompanied by his best friend, a nine-year-old German Shepherd named Finn. It was a far cry from the usual talents but it did keep the judges and the audience interested. Dave began his act by asking one of the judges to write down a word on a piece of paper and keep the paper close to his chest. Dave then turned his back to the audience and instructed the judge to show the word to Finn.
Finn glanced at the word written on paper and seemingly "whispered" it to Dave, who guessed it correctly. This alone wowed the audience, but Dave and Finn had more in store. Equipped with photos and words which were flashed on the big screen, Dave shares how, as a policeman, he had Finn as his companion for seven years. In his line of duty, Dave was in harm's way but Finn, being the courageous best friend that he is, jumped in front and saved Dave's life while risking his own. Fortunately, Finn survived. This story brought the judges and the audience to tears.
Dave and Finn concluded their act by asking Simon to go onstage. Dave read out loud words that people thought best described Finn. He then asked Simon to kneel in front of Finn, peep at the notepad, and remember the word he saw. Finn knew what word Simon saw and it was a word that was already engraved on his collar: "heroic.
Finn is proof that dogs aren't just best friends - they are heroes, too. Their routine is more than impressive but also packed with emotional. What a memorable audition.
