Alexandra Trusova, 13, just made history with an ice skating routine that took place at the International Skating Union (ISU) World Junior Figure Skating Championships. Instead of playing it safe and going with easy moves, Alexandra did something that no woman has been able to accomplish.
Now footage of her routine is spreading online like wildfire – her incredible skill is something everyone should see!
Even though she’s barely a teenager, Alexandra’s spent a majority of her life practicing figure skating and competing in international circuits. That’s why it came as no surprise when Alexandra was a fan favorite when she entered the ISU World Junior Figure Skating Championships.
After months of preparing for this competition, Alexandra was ready to take home the gold. She even had a special trick up her sleeve, one that was sure to wow the judges. All she had to do was nail the landings…
The first quadruple jump called a “Salchow” went flawlessly! That alone was enough to earn a podium position, but Alexandra wasn’t done. Seconds after she landed the Salchow, Alexandra prepared for a quadruple toeflip. Sure enough, that too was a success!
In addition to the quadruple jumps, Alexandra sprinkled tricks into her routine like an impressive triple-flip Salchow combination, a triple flip-triple toe and a double Axel. Everyone in the audience knew that they were watching a once-in-a-lifetime performance unfold before their eyes.
Immediately after Alexandra skated off the ice, the judges came back with a personal high score of 153.49! She was going to take home the gold medal. To add even more excitement to Alexandra’s routine, she was the first woman in history to land two quadruple jumps in one program!
Alexandra told the International Skating Union how excited she was to make history with her routine:
“I am very happy to have won, but I’m even happier to have landed the two quads. I prepared for that and I did it.
After I landed the quads, I was very happy, but I still had the rest of the program to do. There were still three difficult combinations to come and I had to pull myself together.”
We can’t wait to see what the future has in store for this talented young lady!
