A student at Temple University in Pennsylvania, Kayla Flloon, volunteers at the local animal shelter in Philadelphia. She was walking dogs like she normally does, when a stray arrived that immediately caught her attention. The stray, a pit bull named Russ, was sitting calmly in his assigned kennel, and was just staring at Kayla.
Russ had come in with an eye infection, kennel cough, was underweight, bleeding, and was not in good shape. Kayla was staring back at Russ and decided to take him out into the yard to play a little. She offered him treats, that he would take ever so gently from her hand, and was very obedient for her on the leash.
The one thing Russ would do that really melted Kayla's heart, is he loved to cuddle with her. After spending a short amount of time with him, Kayla shared with Today how she felt about him:
"I fell in love. I knew it was meant to be."
After leaving the shelter and Russ for the night, Kayla found herself talking about Russ to everyone she knew--her mother, her friends... She was so impressed by him, and really excited for what she felt was happening. The next day, she decided to take Russ out for a drive, and even bought him snacks from Chick-Fil-A, which he ate while lounging in her lap. They had a blast, and right then she knew what she had to do next.
She went back to the shelter, and immediately drew up adoption papers for Russ. Kayla was now the official owner of Russ, and their magical journey together has just begun. Ever since she signed the papers, Russ has not left Kayla's side. In fact, he is so happy that she adopted him, that he hasn't been able to stop cuddling with her.
While Kayla was at home doing her homework, a friend was over visiting when she caught a snapshot of Russ cuddling with his new owner. The photo has gone viral, as clearly Russ is trying to show Kayla how much he appreciates her for adopting him. It's obvious that he loves her very much!
As the weeks have started to go by, and Russ and Kayla are extremely happy with one another, his kennel cough has cleared up, and through a series of medicated baths, his skin is feeling a lot better now. The pair go on trips together, they sleep in the same bed, and Kayla often walks Russ around campus with her. Kayla shared:
"He has not even been with me for two weeks yet, however the bond that we have is incredible. He does not leave my side."
It sounds like these two are headed to live happily ever after together!

It is so wonderful when a dog gets adopted into a loving home such as Kayla's. After all, they are looking for the same thing we all are--love.
