Jogger Hears Crying Coming From Woods, Makes Incredible Find

In our stress-filled modern times, one of the best ways to "get away from it all" is to take a nice long stroll in the woods. Sometimes a person might even be brave enough to go it alone, without a friend or companion by their side. But, is it really all that safe to do so? After all, when you're by yourself, having a cell phone is no guarantee that help will arrive in time.
You might remember a scene like this from any number of horror flicks - some unsuspecting soul is on a solo jaunt in the woods, and suddenly a piercing shriek can be heard in the distance. The birds stop chirping, and even the bears are running away. The would-be victim frantically tries to make a call on their mobile, but there's no signal. You know how this usually ends - not good!
When 34-year-old Hong Nguyen went for an early morning jog near the woods, her heart nearly stopped after she heard cries coming from the nearby brush. Although it was dark and she was all alone, Hong's curiosity still got the better of her. She made a beeline straight towards the unusual noise, but the last thing she expected was to find was a scene that came right out of a movie. That's when Hong whipped out her cell phone...
Hong wasn't fearful of being lured into a clever trap that had been laid by the local Boogeyman. She immediately recognized the source of the cries, and knew she had to track down the poor little thing right away! Hong told NBC News:
"It was human sounds, not animal sounds. I was really worried, and it was a bit scary."
The jogger relied on her hearing to pinpoint the infant in the dark, but she was confused as to how or why there was a baby crying for her mother out in the middle of nowhere. When Hong found the baby girl, the little tot was still strapped into a car seat, and seemed to have been abandoned. She didn't know it at the time, but an Amber Alert had been issued for 8-month-old Genesis Hailey, who had been kidnapped earlier that morning in Houston, Texas.
Four hours earlier, the baby's frantic mother had been trying in vain to get employees at a gas station to call 911. Mom had originally run into the convenience store to grab a soda and pay for her gas. Thinking it would just be a quick in-and-out trip, she left the keys in the ignition, with the engine still running. However, mom barely made it into the store when she saw a man jump into her car and drive off, with a sleeping baby Genesis still in the backseat.
The frantic mother tried to chase the car, but quickly gave up after she realized there was no way to stop him. Her cell phone and keys were still in the car, so she ran into the gas station and tried to tell the clerk and other customers what happened. Unfortunately, and quite surprisingly, not a single person offered to call for help!
Frustrated and out of options, mom actually ran home to her nearby apartment complex, physically kicked in the door, and was finally able to call 911 herself. After an Amber Alert was issue, police found the car abandoned just up the road, but there was no baby in sight.
Thankfully, Hong was at the right place and right time. Even more incredible is the fact that Hong was visiting family on a 5-day vacation from Vietnam, and that very morning was the first time she had decided to go for a jog!
Police say that Hong's jogging route was not very well-traveled, and had she not been there, the little girl could have met a very different fate. Officer Albert Pizana, who was one of the first officers on the scene, told reporters during a news conference:
"Whenever we can recover a baby alive . it feels good. It makes you wanna go home and hug your kids even tighter."
The officer said Genesis had likely been left outside for hours, and he couldn't imagine how anyone could do that to an innocent baby. Genesis did end up with quite a few ant bites, but otherwise she was healthy, and more importantly - she was found alive.
