Little One Meets Mom's Twin For The Very First Time

It's been ten long months since Felix's birth, and Auntie hasn't been able to visit until now! Thankfully, the moment she walks through the door, little Felix's face lights up!
His reaction isn't because he's excited to see his aunt for the first time, it's due to the fact she looks like Mom! Auntie is Mom's identical twin and this is the first time Felix has ever been able to experience that!
Thank goodness Dad had his cellphone camera running and was able to capture this adorable moment on film...
The moment Auntie came in through the front door, Felix's attention shifted. She looked like Mom and sounded like Mom, so how could the real Mom be standing right next to him?
Auntie came over to give Felix a big hug - and with a wide-eyed look spread across his face, he extended his arms and happily welcomed her embrace. But just a few seconds into the interaction, Felix's joy turned to pure confusion.
Even though it's obvious Felix senses that his aunt and mother are really similar, there are real ways babies recognize their mothers. By the time their six months old, Parenting Magazine says that babies understand that some may look more like Mom than others.
"Not only does your baby recognize your face early on (and love looking at it), but by the time she's just 10 to 12 weeks old, she's able to figure out whether other people she meets are the same gender as you.
In a series of studies, Paul Quinn, Ph.D., a professor of psychology at the University of Delaware, discovered that 3- to 4-month-old babies prefer to look at female faces. So does this mean that babies are programmed to prefer women? Not so fast. It turns out that the babies in these particular studies had mothers as their primary caregiver.
In another study, Quinn found that babies whose fathers were their primary caregiver liked gazing at male faces best. 'We think the baby uses the caregiver as a standard to compare others,' he says. In other words, your baby may look at a new person and wonder, 'How much are you like the person who takes care of me?'"
For Felix, the reason this stranger looks so much like his mother is because she's her twin! No matter what highs and lows he may experience in life, it's clear he has two amazing women who are ready to make sure he's okay.
