A lot of you have probably seen American Idol before. The singing competition is a staple on primetime television. It has launched the career of multiple celebrities, including Carrie Underwood, Adam Lambert, and Kelly Clarkson. We can all agree that the auditions are our favorite part of the show. You’ll never when the next big winner walks through those doors!
American Idol had recently undergone a reboot. It follows the same format but now sports new faces on the judges’ panel. Katy Perry, Luke Bryan, and Lionel Richie now have the gruelling task of finding America’s next big superstar. Could 24-year-old Alejandro Aranda be the one?
It’s not every day that you come across a future star. But that’s exactly what Katy, Luke, and Lionel felt when they met Alejandro. The singer-songwriter performed on the episode of American Idol. His appearance was teased with a video titled, “Greatest American Idol audition ever?”
Judging by the talent Alejandro brought to the table, he might as well be living up to expectations. Alejandro entered the audition with just his guitar in tow. He shared his story with the judges, saying that he grew up “like any other kid” with the exception of being homeschooled. Alejandro picked up music later in life. Four years ago, to be exact! He managed to teach himself how to play different instruments and bring out the power in his voice.
For his audition piece, Alejandro decided to go with an original song. He performed a track called “Out Loud” and instantly blew the judges away. By the end of the performance, all three judges were at their feet and giving Alejandro a standing ovation. Katy would even go on to declare that he was going to win.
Alejandro was humbled by their reaction. He managed to crack a shy smile when Lionel showered him with praise.
“You are my friend, are so talented.” The Grammy-winning artist said. “You, my friend, are so talented. I am so inspired. You have such a career. And the fact that you don’t know it makes you more special.”
No matter how his American Idol run turns out, Alejandro, who goes by the stage name ScaryPoolParty, is definitely the next big thing. He’s already a staple in the local music scene, having won Five of Five Entertainment and California State University, Northridge’s Artist of the Year in 2017.
Not bad for someone who has spent less than five years learning music! We hope Alejandro and his natural talent go a long, long way.
