Manners matter! We’ve heard our mothers voice this saying a millions times, but one barista from Roanoke, Virginia is giving customers a bit of a kindness refresher course with the sign he placed outside of his coffee shop.
Austin Simms is the clever man behind the sign stating the price ranges for a small cup of coffee that all have to do with how polite you are to the employee behind the counter!
Simply bark “small coffee” at Austin and his coworkers, you’ll be charged a whopping $5. Add a little politeness to your tone by saying, ” small coffee, please,” and the price drops to $3! And if you want to order your drink in a way that would make your mother proud, with a greeting and a “please,” you only have to pay $1.75.
Even though the sign began as a joke, Austin told WDBJ7 News that he’s sticking to his word!
“I decided, because I need to solve all the injustices of the world, to start charging more for people who didn’t take the time to say hello and connect and realize we’re all people behind the counter.”
It’s easy to forget that kindness can go a long way – especially with the people who make you your much-needed cup of coffee every morning!
Not everyone is pleased about the sign and the prices, but there are others who totally understand the deeper message behind it all! One Reddit user jumped to Austin’s defense.
